Ouch

Bought a rice cooker tonight. Yum. I tried to duplicate the fried rice from the hibachi steakhouse. The kid said it was better than the hibachi joint, but either he's a kiss-ass or high on Tylenol. It wasn't that good. The pre-fried rice was perfect though, so there's that.

About that other thing. Sean took a dive off a piece of playground equipment last night. He's a tough kid. We walked around for two hours afterwards. He had a pretty obvious limp today, so we had it checked out. A doctor visit and an X-Ray later, the diagnosis was, "It's a foot sprain or something." Right...

We ventured out of the South-West side of town tonight and explored Lake Shawnee. Two playgrounds, a trip over the damn and a visit to the Ensley garden. It's a pretty amazing place, we'll be spending more time there. Sean contributed to the water level of one of those streams, which I think he enjoyed. Probably more than the amphibians living there.

Part of my strategy this week has been to run the boys until they're so tired they fall asleep. Out at this park or that until around 6pm. Grab dinner, repeat. Return home around 8-8:30pm, shower, do homework, and go to bed. The plan is almost foolproof. The flaw is this: it's wearing me out too. I'm spent by 10pm.

Productive day at the office. My new VMs are coming together. Deployed a DNS server in five minutes, thanks to puppet. Too bad postfix, openldap and postgresql and the rest aren't that easy.

After another turd performance last night, the Royals managed to beat the best pitcher in baseball today. I'm confused.

Dead Fish

Did some stuff at the office today. Thrilling stuff, such as fixing a z-index bug that only showed up in IE7, installing some system upgrade, that sort of crap. Still waiting on some people to do some things (it's classified SCI, don't ask) to make my life easier.

The boys and I placed some ant traps out in the yard. Those little bastards (the ants, not the boys) won't go away. My plan is as follows:

  1. Ant baits
  2. More ant baits
  3. Napalm

We'll see how it goes.

Visited two parks, Hillsdale and Gage. Wandered around the rock garden and rose garden, saw several dead fish and some live frogs.

Added a poetry section to the site. I whipped up a little cinquain today and thought, "why the hell not?" A little creative writing never killed anyone (though the reading of certainly may have).

Here's another poem:

God damn,
The Royals suck.
I wish I could,
Stop giving a fuck.

Believe

"Organized religions by their very natures are misleading. The bottom line is always money. What that’s got to do with your spiritual well-being still eludes me. It’s always the bucks, no matter how they disguise it. If you need that sort of assistance to keep yourself together, you may be paying a higher rate to a fake religion than you would to a psychotherapist. Which is not to say that a psychotherapist is going to give you any better value per dollar either. lf you’re going to deal with reality, you’re going to have to make one big discovery: Reality is something that belongs to you as an individual. If you wanna grow up, which most people don’t, the thing to do is take responsibility for your own reality and deal with it on your own terms. Don’t expect that because you pay some money to somebody else or take a pledge or join a club or run down the street or wear a special bunch of clothes or play a certain sport or even drink Perrier water, it’s going to take care of everything for you. Because it all comes from inside. As a matter of fact, that’s where it stays."
